The product of an exercise from an Advanced Type class I taught at Boise State in the Fall of 2022.
The goal with the exercise was to familiarize students with designing with type—how it can be used in a variety of ways to convey context or illustrate content. Students were assigned to create two layouts using type to visually represent the content of the First Things First manifestos. One of these layouts was targeted at hand lettering, and the other at typesetting. Each layer was then printed on the Risopgraph in collaboration with the other students' layers, to create new, unique compositions.
This book is a collection of the results of this process, and serves as documentation of the project.
