This book was born out of a desire to challenge myself to confront my discomfort with vulnerability and to thank those you have significantly impacted my life.
This project combined three of my passions——photography, typography, and hand processes. All photos were shot on a 1938 Rolleiflex camera I inherited from my grandfather and the final book was printed on a Risograph. To give the book a more personal touch, I utilized my bespoke typeface, GG Hand, which was modeled after my handwriting.

I wanted the form of the book to further communicate the difficulty of opening up to others. After much experimentation, I landed on a concept where the page quite literally needs to be ripped open to access the personal letter inside. This barrier to access and irreversibility reference the protective walls we put up to protect ourselves, and the importance of being delicate with someone’s emotions once those walls have been lowered.
