This project was a collaboration with the University of Wisconsin–Madison, which publishes an annual journal of student written articles called The Cross Section. The content of each journal centers around the discipline of Scandinavian Studies, and I chose to highlight the interaction between nature and technology that occurs in these cultures and was a topic mentioned in this issue.
In order to tie together the themes of nature and technology, I chose photography representative of the landscapes found in Scandinavia, but applied a pixel effect to create a more digital feel. I also chose a lo-res typeface, and created pixelated versions of traditional patterns found in Scandinavian culture, such as those for knitting patterns and the Norwegian currency.
An example of a spread found in the journal, showcasing the pixelated imagery and typography, as well as running header elements to differentiate between articles.
